Action Plan
Plans were drawn up by Lancashire County Council's Environmental Projects Team to reflect the Friends' Vision. They have been used by the Friends to support their applications for funding, with the ultimate aim of making the churchyard more accessible to the public.
County Councillor Clive Grunshaw said:
"It is always great to work with a group of people who are so passionate about their community. The plan brings all their ideas together in one place and is absolutely brimming with potential. The graveyard was incredibly grand and must have been an awesome sight originally. Now that the area is starting to be opened up, we can once again begin to appreciate its beauty."
"I hope that the plans we have drawn up will help them get the cash they need to turn this forgotten area into a real jewel in Nelson's crown. The potential for the graveyard to become a place of historic interest and an educational resource for local schools is quite great."
Elaine Butterworth (middle front), Secretary of The Friends of St. John's Churchyard said:
"The project started in April 2005 when the group formed to tackle the knotweed problem and reclaim the churchyard".
